Making Innovation Everybody's Business

Nosco · Branding & Corporate Identity, 2018 - 2019

For years Nosco had been struggling with the fact that we’re both a software and consulting company — how to tell this story? How do we look? We’re definitely not just as cool SAAS company, nor are we a classic, corporate consulting firm. We feel somewhere in-between, but we also feel that we have an edge and a different perspective on things.

In 2018 it was time for Nosco to get a new self portrait. I think that the self portrait is a good analogy on how you could look at a corporate identity: It’s really hard to paint yourself, you’re never satisfied, and you tend to forget the whole picture. That’s why we teamed up with the extremely talented branding agency AM Copenhagen.

The project with Nosco and AM Copenhagen revolves around the idea of highlighting a spontaneous and creative mindset in a graphic identity. Nosco believes in the advantages of building collaborative innovation communities in large corporations through an open exchange of ideas.

The goal was to reflect the flow of unfiltered ideas and to invite people to interact with the identity, while speaking with a rebellious, anti-establishment tone-of-voice.

We wanted to showcase Nosco’s passion for innovative cultures, and how corporations can prosper from bringing the power back to their employees. Together with AM Copenhagen we created a graphic identity which reflects the advantages to “un-businessing” as a means for a greater amount of creative flow within collaborative communities and spaces.

Dynamic logo concept - the new Nosco logo can take many shapes. One for every occasion.

The aim for the identity was to encapsulate Nosco’s ambitions in an anarchistic, fun, and inventive way. To loosen the restrictive corporate tie and break the traditional boundaries through a quirky and dynamic design. The design of the red thread illustrates the initial imperfection of ideas and eliminates the perfectionism which often surrounds the mystical magic of innovation. After all… Innovation is everybody’s business.

The display font, Nosco Mono, is a fixed width type family. The letterforms infuse a geometric foundation and grotesque details with shapes from classical italic typefaces. It holds a strong identity in the details of terminals, ascenders, descenders and spurs.

The project included a full day of workshopping to gather insights, identifying our needs, and to jot down a ton of ideas — of course. After the workshop AM Copenhagen started developing ideas for the identity, and as we got closer to the final solution, the whole project just added up.

The outcome of the project is a complete graphic identity, as well as a full communication concept. This included a customised typeface, animation concept, illustration style, logo design, image concept, colour schemes, and finally a tone-of-voice concept.

The idea with the identity was to encourage the user, as well as Nosco’s own staff, to take action by filling in the blank space with a multitude of fresh and diverse ideas.
